SUMMARY
Takis Marthas (1905-1965) combines the role of the Architect, Painter and Professor at the School of Architecture in the National Technical University of Athens.
Takis Marthas was a versatile personality who has contributed to the formation of architecture in the years between the Wars in Greece. He is considered one of the pioneers in the Abstraction. On the other hand his contribution to the architectural education is unquestioned. Moreover neither has his architectural nor the overall of his work been studied.
The research deals with his work through the exploration of the relationship between the two sections, this of the architecture and the Visual Arts as well as it deals with the effect they had in his architectural and teaching work. His architectural work includes residences and public buildings. Moreover from his total painting- plastic arts work it is studied the part which is related to Architecture. The main aims of this research are:
- a) The contribution to the Greek architectural historiography of the monograph of an architect who belongs to the generation of the interwar period which (monograph) includes the whole of the findings up to now about the Architect and his work and also an effort to interpretate it.
- b) The contribution to the understanding and the interpretation of the progress which the Architecture follows during the20th century in Greece as well as to place the creator in the Greek and International architectural stage.
- c) The examination of the relationship between Architecture and Visual Arts in the light of Modernism and Tradition, in the way it is expressed in Takis Martha’s work, an Architect’s work which par excellence is appropriate for this aim.
- d) Takis Martha’s contribution to the vision of the generation of the 30’s, that means the Greek expression of modernism.
The characteristics of Martha’s case having as principal the co-existence, in his person, three identities- the architect’s, the painter’s and the professor’s make the study of his work exceptionally interesting both in the protogenic research as well as in the methological approach and its interpretation.
Εκδοχές Μοντερνισμού στο αρχιτεκτονικό, εικαστικό και εκπαιδευτικό έργο του Τάκη Μάρθα (1905-1965)
ΠΕΡΙΛΗΨΗ
Ο Τάκης Μάρθας (1905-1965) συνδυάζει στο πρόσωπό του τον ρόλο του αρχιτέκτονα, ζωγράφου και καθηγητή στην Αρχιτεκτονική σχολή του Εθνικου Μετσοβιου Πολυτεχνείου. Προσωπικότητα πολύπλευρη, έχει συμβάλει στην συγκρότηση της αρχιτεκτονικής του μεσοπολέμου στην Ελλάδα. Θεωρείται ένας απο τους πρωτοπόρους στην εικαστική αφαίρεση ενω η συνεισφορά του στην αρχιτεκτονική εκπαίδευση είναι αδιαμφισβήτητη. Παρά ταύτα το Αρχιτεκτονικό και το συνολικό του έργο δεν έχει μελετηθεί.
Η έρευνα πραγματεύεται το έργο του μέσα από τη διερεύνηση της σχέσης ανάμεσα στους δυο τομείς, την αρχιτεκτονική και τις εικαστικές τέχνες, και τον αντίκτυπο που είχαν στο αρχιτεκτονικό έργο αλλά και στη διδασκαλία του.
Στόχοι της έρευνας είναι:
α) η συνεισφορά στην ελληνική αρχιτεκτονική ιστοριογραφία της μονογραφίας ενός αρχιτέκτονα της γενιάς του μεσοπολέμου η οποία θα περιλαμβάνει το σύνολο των μέχρι τώρα ευρημάτων για τον αρχιτέκτονα και το έργο του και μια προσπάθεια ερμηνείας του.
Β) η συμβολή στην κατανόηση και την ερμηνεία της πορείας που ακολούθησε η αρχιτεκτονική κατά τον 20ό αιώνα στην Ελλάδα και η τοποθέτηση του δημιουργού στο πλαίσιο της ελληνικής και διεθνούς αρχιτεκτονικής σκηνής.
γ) η διερεύνηση της σχέσης αρχιτεκτονικής και εικαστικών τεχνών, υπό το πρίσμα του μοντέρνου και της παράδοσης, έτσι όπως εκφράζεται στο έργο του Τάκη Μάρθα, αρχιτέκτονα του οποίου το έργο κατεξοχήν προσφέρεται για τον σκοπό αυτό.
δ) η συνεισφορά του Τάκη Μάρθα στο όραμα της γενιάς του 30, δηλαδή στον εξελληνισμό του μοντέρνου.
Τα χαρακτηριστικά της περίπτωσης του Μάρθα με κυριότερο τη συνύπαρξη στο πρόσωπό του τριών ιδιοτήτων – του αρχιτέκτονα, του ζωγράφου και του καθηγητή καθιστούν τη μελέτη του έργου του εξαιρετικά ενδιαφέρουσα τόσο σε επίπεδο πρωτογενούς έρευνας όσο και μεθοδολογικής προσέγγισης και ερμηνεία.
